What drives trailer wrap cost
- Length and height. A 32 ft trailer needs close to three times the film of a 10 ft trailer in the table above.
- Doors. Chicago Fleet Wraps says barn doors, a roll-up, a drop ramp, and a side door each break the artwork, and each becomes its own panel (>trailer page).
- Rivets and seams. The same page says a riveted side takes longer than a bonded one, because each row is worked one at a time. That shows up as labor.
- Surface condition. Chalked aluminum, old lettering, and silicone from old repairs need prep before film goes on.
- What stays bare. Reflective tape, marker lights, the plate area, and the rub rail get masked, not covered.
The reflective tape stays
Federal rule 49 CFR 393.11(b) says each trailer 80 inches or wider with a GVWR over 10,000 pounds, built on or after December 1, 1993, must carry retroreflective sheeting or reflex reflectors (>eCFR). Pole trailers and trailers built for living or office use are exempt. Your design has to leave room for that tape. Do not let a shop print over it.
Get more for less
- Letter a white trailer. Name, phone, and website in big cut vinyl cost a fraction of a full wrap and read from across a lot.
- Spend on the street side and the rear. The rear faces every driver behind you. The curb side faces the homeowner.
- Match the tow vehicle. Use the same colors and layout on the truck so people link the two.
- Skip the roof and the tongue box. Nobody reads them.
